The 1998 NBA Finals, which would be Jordan’s last, pitted the Bulls against the Utah Jazz for a repeat of the previous year’s contest. This year, however, the Bulls were considered the underdog. The Bulls entered the series having their worst playoff record since 1992, barely beating the Indiana Pacers in seven games in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The Jazz, who had the home court advantage, won the first game in overtime after Scottie Pippen missed a three-point shot at the buzzer for the Bulls. Game 3 of the series, which the Bulls won 96 to 54, is known as the biggest blowout in NBA Finals’ history. In the opening moments of Game 6, Scottie Pippen injured his back, placing a huge burden on Jordan to carry the team. He answered, scoring 23 points in the first half and making a key basket with 5.2 seconds remaining to give the Bulls an 87-86 lead. Jordan would earn his sixth Finals MVP for his performance.

The Air Jordan XIV that Jordan wore to win his sixth and final NBA Championship was an early prototype of that model that he only started wearing during Game 3 of the series. Prior to that, Jordan had worn the Air Jordan XIII. Designer Tinker Hatfield fashioned the shoe to emulate the lines of Jordan’s Ferrari 550 Maranello. The Jumpman logo was even updated to mimic the Ferrari logo. The shoe’s colorway is known as “Last Shot.”

The Dynasty was complete, but the world was only beginning to understand its impact.
