Congratulations, 2022 CSG Registry Award Winners!

There are now more than 88,000 sports cards in the CSG Registry, and it is thrilling to see the steady, continuous growth as more cards are added daily. We appreciate your enthusiasm and interest in the CSG Registry.

This is the first-ever CSG Registry Awards, and we look forward to growing award categories and offering collectors more opportunities to win from year to year. This year we chose ten sets for Best Sets of the Year. Winners will receive a personalized plaque, an icon of recognition next to their CSG Registry set, a $500 CSG grading credit and a CSG-certified card with a special label and pedigree worth approximately $100.

Our panel of judges reviewed the top sets across every category in the Sports Card Registry and after much deliberation, selected the following winners. Congratulations to all!

Dexman by Dexman40 – 1970 Kellogg’s
This 75-card set was the first released by the cereal maker and is most notable for the 3-D look. Measuring 2 ¼” by 3 ½”, smaller than standard-sized baseball cards, these card backs offer a ton of information with their horizontal arrangement including career stats and a short bio. Dexman40 has comprised a complete set including the five key cards, Willie Mays #12 (CSG 8), Roberto Clemente #27 (CSG 7), Pete Rose #2 (CSG 5.5), Reggie Jackson #32 (CSG 8) and Ernie Banks #40 (CSG 8).

Ozhaino Puchi by Kon_Jelly – Ozzie Albies player set
This collector has all but 3 of the 69 cards currently available in this player set, with many of them Rookie Cards. Most of Kon_Jelly’s cards are graded CSG Gem Mint 10 with a set total score of 6,817 points. Ozhaino “Ozzie” Albies is a Curacaoan professional baseball second baseman for the Atlanta Braves and made his MLB debut in 2017 and won the 2021 World Series. Albies was selected to the All-Stars in his rookie season and is displayed on #136 2018 Topps Throwback Thursday ’89 Topps Baseball All-Star Design included in Kon_Jelly’s set. This collection also includes many autographed cards.

21 by CLEMENTE21 – Roberto Clemente player set
CLEMENTE21 has over 7,000 points and 53 cards displaying a history of Clemente’s playing days ranging from 1955 to 1973, including a 1955 Topps #164 Rookie Card (CSG 1.5). Current cards remember his playing milestones, such as #16 2017 Panini Diamond Kings Memorable Moments (CSG 9.5). Clemente played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1973. This collection features a card from each of those 18 seasons, including #50 1973 Topps (CSG 7), which documents his 3,000th hit.

Tim’s Bond Bread by TimsCards – 1947 Bond Bread (Includes Boxers)
With 48 cards, TimsCards has a complete set of 1947 Bond Bread baseball and boxing cards with the highest graded a CSG 7.5. This black and white set is one of the most popular early baseball card sets following the end of World War II. Several key cards exist in the set, including Joe DiMaggio (CSG 6), Bob Feller (CSG 6.5), Stan Musial (CSG 6), Johnny Mize (CSG 7) and Ted Williams (CSG 6), but the most important card is no doubt the rookie card of Jackie Robinson (CSG 5.5). Robinson broke baseball’s color barrier the year this set was issued. Joe Louis (CSG 1.5) is thought to be the most valuable boxer card in the set.

1986 Fleer NBA set by Maizecards – 1986-87 Fleer
This set boasts 132 cards for completion, and Maizecards has them all. The 1986-87 Fleer Basketball cards mark Fleer’s return to sports after a 25-year hiatus and is considered the beginning of the modern era of basketball cards. With players listed alphabetically, most cards in this set are considered Rookie Cards, including #57 Michael Jordan (CSG 8.5) which make up most of the over 19,000 points accumulated by Maizecards with 12,502 points. This set includes such greats as #7 Charles Barkley (RC), #26 Clyde Drexler (RC), #32 Patrick Ewing (RC), #68 Karl Malone (RC), and #82 Akeem Olajuwon (RC).

ABCJR by kypackman – 1961-62 Fleer
The 1961-62 Fleer set was the company’s only major basketball issue until the 1986-87 season. The first two-thirds of the set, cards #1 to #44 are standard cards, containing the player’s bio and stats. Cards #45 to #66 feature a second card of the most popular NBA players in action shots. This collection by kypackman includes several Hall of Fame Players and all-time greats including #1 Al Attles (CSG 6), #2 Paul Arizin (CSG 7), #10 Bob Cousy (CSG 6.5), #38 Bill Russell (CSG 4), #46 Elgin Baylor IA (CSG 7), and #61 Oscar Robertson IA (CSG 4.5).

TwoYewts – 1938 Cartledge Razors Famous Prize Fighters Set
This collector took the time to create Owner’s Comments for his complete set of prize fighters. The information includes the distributor’s name and background for the release of these cards, such as once a collector obtained 50 or more cards, they could exchange duplicates with the company for cards they were missing. Highlights of this set include: #18 John L. Sullivan (CSG 7.5), #22 James Corbett (CSG 7), #24 Bob Simmons (CSG 8), #26 Jack Dempsey (CSG 5.5), #29 Max Schmeling (CSG 5.5), #30 Joe Louis(CSG 7.5), #41 Benny Lynch (CSG 8), #43 Jack (Kid) Berg (CSG 8) and #45 Max Baer (CSG 6.5).

Tom Brady Graded by Mor4Less
Tom Brady began his NFL career in 2001 and played until 2019 with the New England Patriots. Selected in the 6th round of the NFL Draft later earned him the reputation as the NFL’s biggest draft steal. Brady has won seven Super Bowls: six with New England and the most recent with Tampa Bay. Mor4Less has several high point value cards including #236 2000 Bowman Rookie Card (CSG 9) earning him 3,213 points, #148 2003 Topps Chrome Gold Xfractors Weekly Wrap Up (CSG 8.5) and 4,941 points towards his set total of over 51,000 points.

Patersons by Hockey Collector – 1923-24 William Paterson V135-1
It is believed these cards were issued by Canadian confectioner William Paterson, Ltd. and designated as V-series cards due to the similarity to other caramel-issued cards from the 1920s. The sepia tinted cards include a player image, their name, team, card number and National Hockey League printed on the bottom edge while the back of the cards are blank and represent four NHL teams, the Hamilton Tigers, Montreal Canadiens, Ottawa Senators and Toronto St. Patricks. Hockey Collector’s vintage cards include 28 of the total 40 NHL players featured in this set with his highest graded cards #5 Harry Helman (CSG 6).

2021 TOPPS NOW FORMULA 1 by Southside Rip Men
More than half of the 60 cards Southside Rip Men has accumulated for this set are graded Gem Mint 10 but also includes Rookie Cards for #2 Mick Schumacher (CSG 9) and #3 Yuki Tsunoda (CSG 9). This series is a print-to-order set and highlights top drivers and teams covering big wins, milestones or other key moments on the track including #4 Max Verstappen, first win of the season, (CSG 9.5), #17 Pierre Gasly, first podium of 2021, (CSG 9) and #57 Lewis Hamilton, stunning victory in Sochi, (CSG 9.5). The two rookies stand out with a themed rookie card (RC) logo. With the immense popularity of F1 and the lack of mainstream cards, several Topps Now Formula 1 cards have proven to be valuable.
