CSG Grades Iconic Mickey Mantle Baseball Card

Posted on 11/4/2021

The 1952 Topps card is associated with an elite level of collecting.

Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG™) has certified an example of one of the most valuable baseball cards of all time, a 1952 Topps #311 Mickey Mantle. Collectors view this Mantle card as royalty, standing at the pinnacle of the baseball card world.

CSG certified the card in October 2021, grading it CSG 3, with 8 for Centering, 2.5 for Corners, 3.5 for Edges and 4 for Surface.

Mantle played for the New York Yankees from 1951 to 1968, when they won seven World Series championships. He won the Triple Crown in 1956 (leading in batting average, home runs and RBIs) and the Gold Glove Award in 1962. Many consider the Hall of Famer to be the best switch hitter in history.

Though iconic today, a large number of the #311 Mickey Mantles suffered the same inglorious fate as other 1952 Topps high number cards. Legend has it that when efforts to unload the remaining stock of 1952 Topps high number cards had failed, Topps loaded the unopened cases of cards onto a barge and dumped them in the ocean.

This card was submitted under CSG's Unlimited WalkThrough tier for cards valued at $50,000 and up. To see all of CSG's grading tiers and turnaround times, go to CSGcards.com/fees.
