A Pair of CSG-certified Chloe Kim Olympic Team Cards in Preparation for the 2022 Winter Games

Chloe Kim was already a snowboarding superstar when she was selected at the age of 17 to compete in the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. Living up to her reputation, she dominated at the games, earning the US two gold medals and earning herself the title “Queen of Snowboarding.” As the 2022 Winter Games approach, Kim’s return to the Olympic halfpipe is anticipated to be a highlight of the games.

Certified Sports Guaranty® (CSG™) recently certified two cards featuring Chloe Kim from the 2018 Topps US Winter Olympics set. A #USA-33 Chloe Kim Bronze was graded CSG Pristine 10 and a #US-36 Chloe Kim was graded CSG Pristine 10.

Topps released its 2018 US Winter Olympics set on January 26, 2018, which was approximately two weeks before the games opened in PyeongChang, South Korea. Because the cards were issued before the games, the athletes included were those expected to compete. The core of the set includes a base set with 93 cards, as well as 89 autographs cards and 15 Career Achievement Autograph cards featuring US Alpine Skiing champion Lindsey Vonn.

The complete 2018 set is rounded out with Achievement Medallion cards, Memorabilia cards, For Pride and Country cards, Did You Know? cards, Olympic Champion Autograph cards, USOC Insignia Commemorative Relics cards and Podium Image Variation cards with pictures of medal winning athletes from previous games who were expected to compete again.

In addition to Chloe Kim, the athletes featured in the 2018 set who medaled at the games include Alex and Maia Shibutani, Jessie Diggins and John Shuster. Red Gerard, who was the only US athlete younger than Kim to medal in 2018, was not featured on a card. 

The #USA-33 Chloe Kim Bronze features an action shot of Kim in mid-flight during one of her snowboarding runs. The photo is framed with a thin red, white and blue inner border and a wider distressed bronze outer border. These “bronze” cards were parallel image cards of which one was included in each pack. At the bottom left is an emblem that features the American flag and Olympic rings encircled by the words “United States Olympic Team.”

The back of the #USA-33 lists Kim’s weight, height, and hometown of Torrance, California. It also reports that Kim was “on track to be history’s second-youngest US Olympic Halfpipe rider at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018.”

The #USA-36 Chloe Kim features a candid shot of a smiling Kim. Its other details match that of the #USA-33, except that the outer border is a distressed silver instead of bronze. The back of the #USA-36 again lists Kim’s height, weight, and hometown before going on to celebrate her as “just the second rider — male or female — to score a perfect 100 points in competition” while competing at the 2016 US Snowboarding Grand Prix.

Prior to competing at PyeongChang, Chloe Kim had won two gold medals in snowboarding at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Her success at the 2018 games made her the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal. She is also a six-time X Games gold medalist.

In addition to her snowboarding achievements, Kim also holds the record for “the fastest selling cereal box in Kellogg Company history” in relation to the special edition box of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes that featured her image. For those who might be interested, CSG does not certify cereal boxes.
